Stability, Roots and Community

Posted June 12th, 2010 by Pete Scazzero

The Rule of St. Benedict teaches us about the value of  stability, that is, staying in one community over the long-haul. I have been in the New Life Fellowship Church community in Queens (www.newlifefellowship.org) for over 23 years. A lot transpires in 23 years. I have wanted to quit the community more than once and run. I am glad, by God’s grace, that I did not.  My failures, weaknesses, mistakes and sins over these years have all been lived out in our fellowship. I love and am grateful for the opportunity to learn and to be part of such a rich, wonderful group of people. The following is a short video of our past year that we showed at our annual meetings of members last Sunday afternoon. I thought you might enjoy it:

This blog trully blessed me today. I woke up feeling discouraged and sad about the state of my church. It’s not in a “bad” place it’s just missing the real heart of God, in my eyes. I get our call and mission as a church is to tell others about Jesus. Though there is so much hurt and issues with in the body that have never been dealt with. They keep being swept under the events that we keep planning. Maybe I’m being to hard? I find it so difficult to lead in a church that continues to want to do…do…do. and miss the heart of tending to what we have first. My husband and I have been on our journey with EHS for four years. Incredible depth and transformation in us and our vision to how we should walk out our calling. It is a lonely feeling, I have to say trying to be true to myself and want to grow in EHS. I long for a mentor…my heart is so sad right now feeling the inabililty to differentiate myself from the lacking vision of my church. I love my church…. I get on New Life’s website almost everyday do remind me and give me hope. I don’t feel so alone when I watch the videos and hear the sermons. Thanks for sharing the treasures you have. I love you all!!
